A Deer and Collage #2

April 5, 2006

Dscn0008_13

I made this collage on Monday night. Its dimensions are the same as the first one – 5″ x 5″ – and it is also done on a piece of cardboard. I’ve been saving that magazine picture of the phrenology heads for over a year. It also has a little painting of a bird’s nest on cloth that I did a while ago and a bottle cap from a Japanese white beer.

Yesterday and today I worked on this little deer made from Nuigurumi Style (ISBN 4-05-604179-2). Here is the picture in the book that made me want to try this softie

I loved the way this little deer looked. It seems so soft and the neutral colors are just lovely. I don’t often make softies from patterns in books anymore, but I find that I learn new things when I do. The main thing that I learned (or relearned) from this project is that Japanese soft toy patterns often create teensy weensy toys!

This deer is just too small for me. He is barely bigger than the palm of my hand! I did enjoy making the pompom for his tail (thanks Cassi for the tutorial!). I’m sending this deer to my friend and former boss, Jill, who had her third baby boy, Davis, at the end of January. I hope he likes tiny little deer.

I think yours is prettier than the one in the book. The colors are so pretty. What a nice gift!

So, so sweet. Davis (love that name) is a lucky little boy. Love the collage, too.

I can’t get over the new punk rock haircut doll! I wish I could have them all! Punk in the orange dress arrived to us safe and sound, she’s in my blog.
My baby arrived last week, and I wanted to wish you well on your upcoming delivery too.
    All the best,
    Moira
