A bit of everything

May 24, 2006

Let’s see. I started pumping once a day so that Charlie can give Simon a bottle in the evenings in the hopes that he will like taking a bottle enough for me to leave her with someone else once in a while. So far so good, except today I was pumping and reading some blogs at the same time and managed to spill about a 1/4 ounce of breastmilk all over my jeans. That brought me close to tears. I think the sleep deprivation may be catching up with me.

We went to the library yesterday and I finally was able to make it upstairs to the craft aisles before either baby freaked out. I found Jean Greenhowe’s Miniature Toys (1980) which has a few good ideas in it, despite the awful rosette toys on the cover.

I like this leaping pony

this bear in the cottage

and this man in the moon.

Interestingly, there is a pattern for shoes for a straight legged doll similar to the shoes I was making for my bears a while ago.

But my favorite page has to be this one with the Owl and the Pussycat. I love the owl’s eyes and that you can take them in and out of the boat – Roxanne would love this. And these guys appear to be egg cozies, too. How convenient.

I also got Paper Quilting: Creative Designs Using Paper and Thread by Bridget Hoff.

Most of the projects in here are not my style, but there are some lovely studio shots and a few good sewn collage ideas including these two

And today I broke down and bought a double stroller. I’ve been resisting this purchase because we already own four strollers, but I need to get out walking again (a month has gone by and that “baby weight” is still with me). At least I bought it at Magic Beans, an awesome independent toy and baby gear store. And while in Brookline I found these super robot stickers

that remind me of Mimi’s awesome robots.

And, finally, the auction basket is complete. I’m delivering it on Thursday afternoon.

Whew! That’s certainly enough for now. It’s always those days that I think I have nothing to say that end of being so long winded.

I just discovered Jane Greenhowe’s books at my local library: I love the cottage, moon, and boat with removable figures, too! She has another book with cute small animal patterns you might like–something about Blackberry Hollow, maybe? Love the chicken in the kerchief and the cute lambs! Everything, really (don’t want to hurt the bears’ feelings, you know).

Very cool finds! I can’t believe the baby is a month old already. Your basket is wonderful- I’m sure it will do well. I really like tha man in the moon 🙂

Cool basket! I commented once and it went on the wrong post. Anyway, I just said the double stroller was the best money I ever spent on anything. Seriously!

I feel for you and the lost 1/4 oz. of milk. Pumping is a lot of WORK! I smiled when I read the part about the double stroller. I just bought a good lightweight stroller for Mia, and it has literally changed my life. We’re so much more mobile now. I love it. Take care and get some rest!

If I were a little girl I would LOVE to play with that basket of toys… they will be treasured for sure. Each one of them is totally adorable.

So much to comment on in one post…I was a hopeless pumper and my girl refused a bottle so it was all a waste anyway. But I so remember the agony of losing even a drop after all that hard work! And the book looks so good! That pony! The owl and pussy cat! Oh my!!
But the basket! The basket! Freaking heck! What gorgeous toys!! Each one more wonderful than the last. You are enormously talented – do you make all your own patterns too? That monkey….LOVE that monkey. All that AND sleep deprivation? You are doing very very well. Congratulations is all I cna say.
