jumping fish

October 24, 2006

There are two big display cases at the library leading into the children’s section. Right next to them is one of the biggest excitements of any library visit – the aquarium. I’m thinking that in one of the cases I’ll do all sea life – fish, coral, starfish, seahorses. I made this sketch for a fish in motion. I mentioned a little while ago that I’ve been thinking about doing more with motion and asymmetry.

And here he is.

I think he might be a bit horrible. Perhaps horrible in a good way, but horrible none the less.

don’t find him horrible in the slightest! He’ll grow on the patrons of the library I’m sure!

Horrible? No way! I think this is really wonderful. It’s probably more ‘adult’ than your other creations and that’s what I like about it. It’s a toy for the big kids. Really awesome work I say!

aww! he’s got that creepy kind of awesome-ness to him. i LIKE! (although, in the interest of some children..i think the eye would make a big difference from creepy to..whatever it is that children aren’t afraid of haha)

If by “Horrible” you mean “Fantastic” 🙂
The texture & shape are amazing! Certainly a work of art in my book; more soft sculpture than a toy, perhaps.

I think he’s really wonderful…Maybe a little less colorful than your other guys…but his scales and litle fur are such fun! And he really does have a lot of movement!

You truly are an amazing soft toy artist – I thought the 3 little pigs were awesome but I think this fish takes the cake! Wonderful design, wonderful texture and movement.

I think he’s amazing! But I looked at the photo before I read your post, and at first thought he was a vulture/fish hybrid. A fulture? A … vish? But that could very well be just me.

I love him. A little creepy maybe, but that’s just in time for the halloween season, right?

Maybe he’s from the deep sea. He definately looks like he doesn’t surface too much. Not horrible, perhaps, but not an actual FRIENDLY fish
