Wading Bird

October 3, 2007

Dscn0018

I made this wading bird from new and vintage fabrics, including some more lovely Ikea fabric from my sister.  I missed making these tall birds.  I really like their form.

Dscn0024

I added a ruff to the front.

This piece will be part of a show I’m having in April at Paper Boat. I will be showing with Amy Rice, whose work is so beautiful.  All of my pieces will be free-standing soft sculpture for this show, and Amy’s paintings will be on the walls.  I actually will be having another show that month, too, for which I’ll be making bird collages, but more details for that one will follow later.

it’s already been said, but that ruffle is stunning. That little patch of raw edges really sets off such a clean scupture. beautiful.

Abby, this is really incredible. I just expect it to start preening or prancing. The length and shape of the neck is so perfect. it forced me to finally leave a comment ! Jen

I love this, I especially love the head how the fabric is wrapped around almost like a mask. And the over all graceful form is wonderful. Does it stand up on it’s own?
