I absolutely love handmade dolls. The desire to make dolls is what drew me into sewing in the first place and I never get tired of looking at and admiring the way artists create people in miniature form with fabric and thread. The opportunity for creative expression is truly endless.
Today, I’ve gathered five handmade dolls available on Etsy. I encourage you to click through to each artist’s shop and look around because there’s definitely more to see. Some of these dolls are meant for children, but all of them would be lovely for adults who, like me, are doll lovers. This one-of-a-kind handmade doll is made by Jurate, a doll maker in Lithuania near the Baltic Sea. She created this doll from an original pattern using eco-friendly linen fabrics. The clothes are removable. She’s stuffed with polyester fiberfill. 16”.
This 18” doll was made by Elena Sviridova, an artist living in Kiev in Ukraine. The dolls knit sweater, leg warmers, headband, and tutu are removable. She’s one-of-a-kind.
I love the slightly suspicious expression on this 29 cm handmade doll, plus her outfit is something I would totally wear. Made by artist Leticia in San Martin de la Vega, Spain, this doll is made from linen and cotton with wool hair. The clothes are not removable. This is more of an art doll and is not meant as a toy for kids.
Phoebe is a handmade doll made from 100% wool from Holland. She’s 16.5” tall and is stuffed with wool. Her hair is soft wool in cornrow braids. Her clothes are removable and best of all she comes with a set of dress patterns for beginner and experienced doll dressmakers! Phoebe was made by Lisa Press, an artist from South Hamilton, Massachusetts.
This dress-up doll is designed for active, quiet playtime. She’s 13” tall and comes with a whole wardrobe of clothes that close with hook-and-loop tape so they are easy to put on and take off including a dress, cardigan, wings, hat, scarf, tote, and necklace. Lots of great fine motor practice and imaginative storytelling potential with this beautiful handmade toy designed and made by an artist in Singapore.

Abby – I recently checked out your book on creating stuffed animals from my library, and I just had to tell you I was blown away! I can’t believe how well written it is, never mind brilliantly organized. I love how you incorporated lessons within each project. I’m definitely buying a copy for myself, and I can already see myself playing around with head shapes, lol. I have browsed so many craft books in my life and very few have I found worthy of owning and returning to again and again.
