I just finished this hexie doll quilt. I continue to love English Paper Piecing because it’s all done by hand which means it’s totally portable. I sewed this while watching my kids play on the weekends and while relaxing in the evenings. I took it along on a car ride to Connecticut a few weeks ago.
Every hexie is different (except for the creamy white ones) and they are a mix of vintage, Japanese and new fabrics. I’m kinda loving the rainbow effect.
The back is a vintage cheater print and it’s bound in light purple Kona cotton. (I love this video for quick and easy quilt binding.)
I started making this quilt when I was designing my new Asleep Awake Doll pattern. I had all of my small scale prints out and found it hard to put them away without making another something. Now I can tuck the dolls in!
The Asleep Awake Doll pattern is on sale for just a few more days (sale ends February 11). A doll plus a little doll quilt would make the sweetest gift. Even my 9-year-old’s eyes lit up when she saw this. Although she feels she’s too old to play with the doll bed now she said, “I’ll just borrow it for a little while,” and scurried off.
