standing crow

December 9, 2008

The title of this post sounds like it could be somebody's name.

Today I finished the second in the series of crows.  The first one is alighting and this one is standing.

I'm hoping to set up a formation of crows in various stages of flight, and another formation of white gulls.

Bizarre Bazaar was so fun on Sunday. I went all by myself and was able to talk to so many great people and I bought a lot.  I'm nearly done with my holiday shopping now.

This morning I had tea with Lisa Sachs, a mom from our nursery school.  Her daughter has become one of Roxanne's very first friends.  Lisa has a BFA and MFA in photography, has co-authored several books and shown her work in many galleries.  She is thinking of starting a blog and opening an Etsy shop.  She is the first mom  I've met on my own (not via the internet) since I became a mom four years ago who is a maker and an artist. She shows up at playdates with stacks of origami paper, like me.

I know I have met so many crafting and art-making mothers through my blog and many of us have become friends in person, but meeting Lisa was the first time it has worked the other way around. She is a Jewish woman who lives right near me. Making art sustains her and keeps her going through her days raising three children. And my daughter loves her daughter.  What an amazing thing.

It’s always good, supportive and serendipitous when we find someone who shares our interests and goals like that. Especially when we feel like a bit of a ‘rare breed’.

Your crow is lovely! Your doing something different with the beak too – it looks good 🙂 I’m so glad you’ve found someone in real life that shares your interests. If she ever starts a blog be sure to let your virtual friends know 😉

How wonderful that you have found her, and she you.

Well, it could be the name of the son I never had!
(My last name is only one of the reasons I’ve been so excited about your beautiful black birds lately.)

I loved hearing about Lisa. How nice for you both to have met… and to think – without the intervention of the internet!
