A few weeks ago I got an email from Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill asking if I’d like to collaborate with her on a project. I first learned about Sheri when she won the Craftsy Designer Fellowship in 2016. Part of the prize was a booth at fall Quilt Market.
Sheri’s Bzzzzzz quilt is one of my favorites, and you can get an enamel pin to match!
Sheri is a member of Craft Industry Alliance, the trade association I co-founded, and one warm night in August she joined our Coffee Klatsch online meetup to ask for some tips for creating a successful Quilt Market booth. Throughout the fall I enjoyed following along Sheri’s blog as she got ready for her first trade show and admired her creativity and ingenuity.
Since then she’s continued to make such impressive strides in building her career as a designer. I met Sheri in person at QuiltCon in February where she revealed her 270 quilt, a collaborative project with Aurifil threads.
And now Sheri wanted to know if we might join forces to create a baby quilt and softie pattern gift set. She showed me her Little Fishies quilt and I immediately thought it would look so cute paired with Penny the Fish, a project I designed as a free pattern on my blog a little while ago. Many people sew softies for new babies and it’s especially nice to create a coordinating quilt to go with the gift.
I made a brand new Penny the Fish to match Sheri’s quilt and sent it to her so that she could photograph them together. I think the result is so cute! And, Sheri decided to sew her own Penny the Fish as well – her very first softie project.
If you”d like to make a similar set head over to Sheri’s site, Whole Circle Studio, and purchase the Little Fishies quilt PDF and you’ll get a link to my free Penny the Fish pattern to coordinate. Together you’ve got a truly memorable baby gift.

I thought the fish was just free, but it’s actually not : ( I thought I had finally found a good birthday gift for my fish-loving sister. Thanks anyway, it is really adorable!
Abby says
Yes, the fish pattern is free. Where do you see it not being free?
Harley says
I mean, you have to purchase the quilt to get the fish, so, it is free, but then you have to buy something to get it. Really sorry!
Abby says
No you don’t. The fish is a free pattern here on my blog. No need to purchase the quilt.
Harley says
Oh, really? Man I am so sorry! I am really clueless today, sorry!
Harley says
But it says, “Purchase the little fishies quilt PDF and you’ll get a link to my free Penny the Fish pattern”
Abby says
That’s right. You can purchase the quilt pattern and get a link to my free pattern. Or you can just get my free pattern right here on my blog. On the navigation bar at the top you’ll see “Sew With Me.” The second item in the drop down menu is “Free Patterns.” There are several pages of free patterns there including my fish pattern.
Harley says
OK, thank you so much! Sorry for all the trouble! I’ll try not to bother you again 😉

I am happy that Harley did comment about the fact the fish pattern was not free because I understood it the way she had e.g. you had to purchase the quilt pattern in order to get the fish softie pattern. 😉 Thanks to her post, I got the pattern under ‘free pattern’.
Thanks Abby and Harley.
