Owl (the first of two)

July 1, 2005

Dscn1082

I finished the first of the two owls from the gray and yellow vintage fabric. Sewing the brocade for the face was easier than I thought and I like how black it is. I added two white vintage buttons on each wing from my new bag of vintage buttons.

This owl is one in a series, the other needs to be stuffed and finished up. I really like how the wings and feet look now. They’ve gone through many iterations.

Here are the rest of the best of the buttons.

And here are my favorites from the origami paper. I opened up one of the packages last night and was so happy to see that one of the papers has owls all over it! I also love the one with Japanese characters. I got a whole package of paper with bunnies stamped on them in gold (they are subtle and hard to see in this photo).

And here is the monkey mug. Perfect for pens and pencils and paint brushes.

I like how the wings appear to be pinned on by buttons, the whole thing reminds me of a kimono.

The owl is so delightful. As rachel said, it does look like it is wearing a kimono – pretty!
