night is coming

I found this piece of rusted sheet metal on our street two weeks ago while on a walk with Stella and another neighborhood mom and her littlest son.  Isn’t it great!  Like a topographical map or the veil of nighttime descending.  And I found the round piece of rusted metal on a walk, too, about six months ago.  I originally thought it would become the center of a sand dollar, but it seems to work here, too, as a twinkling star.

I am thinking a little bit now about creating other soft sculpture forms to affix to collages.  I’m still not quite sure what they would be, but it might help me move along some to give it a try.

Camp Glassenberg here has been an intense experience.  No nap means no break for me from 6:30 am – 6:30 pm.  I am trying to get used to this new schedule. Roxanne and I have been spending some really nice time baking and working with clay and eating popsicles on the patio during Stella’s afternoon nap, but is really exhausting, too.

Fortunately serious cuteness abounds.  Look whose hair is finally long enough for a "fountain" ponytail

    I’m not sure why, but all your pieces have such a great museum-like feel to me. Whenever I see one I want to catalog it. Does that make sense?
    Love the fountain ponytail too. So cute.

    Your little girl is darling. I love the “fountain” ponytail. I immortalized my daughter at this age, with this hair style, in a portrait quilt. So cute.

    my youngest is 2 (i have a girl, age 5, and a boy), and we’ve toyed with the idea of dropping his daytime nap. my daughter dropped hers really young, but at the time, i worked full time and she was at nursery. his nap had started interfering with bedtime and we were having lots of messing about so, at the moment, he is having a morning sleep. a full 1.5 hours of peace for me (when its not the school holidays!). i know its not going to last though!

    Your little one is so cute with the topknot. It must be hard to lose the daytime nap – I look forward to those moments of peace everyday. I love what you have done here with the metal fragments in your latest collage and your birds have so much personality.

    There’s so much catching up to do with your archives (I better pull up a chair…), and I missed looking at your softies. I can’t believe she’s a toddler now! 😀

    Argh! I feel your struggle! Even now that my girls are both older (4 and 7), I am still hugely protective of my “after bedtime” creative time. If either of the girls come down after tucking in, I have to count to ten so I don’t stomp my foot, pout, and yell “This is my time! mine mine mine. Let me work.”
