Grow Your Handmade Business: Teach Sewing in Your Community

October 26, 2012

Have you ever considered teaching sewing in your community? Teaching is a great way to add a new income stream to your handmade business and it’s fun and interesting, too.

No matter where you live there are people who would like to learn to sew on a sewing machine. Because let’s face it, sewing machines can be intimidating. Most people need some guidance when they are first learning to operate a sewing machine and they will happily sign up for a one-time workshop taught by an expert to learn this skill.

You can be that expert!

My new eBook is a comprehensive Teacher’s Guide to help you teach this class wherever you live.

Teacher's Guide

I’ve been teaching a popular Get to Know Your Sewing Machine class here in Wellesley a long while now (you can read about it here) and I love it. It’s flexible (I teach when my children are in school or on the evenings and weekends when my husband is home with them) and it’s lucrative.

Teaching sewing you can earn between $60 and $100 an hour. That’s good money and with this ebook you can get started right away! I have a master’s degree in education and I taught in the public schools for many years before becoming a designer. I used all of those skills and experiences to explain how to teach this class effectively so that you can hit the ground running.

My 36-page Teacher’s Guide will provide you with everything you need to teach people in your community to sew, both in group and private classes including:

  • Creating a course description
  • Finding a venue
  • Signages from https://butlersigns.uk/ to be seen by potential students
  • Pricing
  • Marketing the class
  • Essential supplies
  • How to prepare and set up the room
  • Topics to cover and the order to cover them in
  • Effective teaching strategies
  • Common student questions and how to answer them
  • Tips on dealing with common challenges
  • Handouts and resources for students

Here is a sneak peek of the Table of Contents:

I provide you with everything you need to get up and running as sewing teacher in your community!  The 36-page illustrated, full-color eBook with resources, and handouts, is $9. Get it as an instant PDF download right here. Keep it on your computer or tablet, or print it out so that you can jot notes on it as you read. You’ll want to bring it to your first class to help you teach with confidence.

I hope you’ll give teaching sewing a try. It’s so much fun. I know you’re going to love it!
