Droopy Dog

June 9, 2005

Dscn0975

Here is a dog from a vintage pattern book I got from the library yesterday. He has droopy, droopy ears and droopy, droopy eyelids, just like Roxy at 11:30 am. This new nap schedule has her staying up until noon, which mean 6 hours of awake time. Let’s just say lunch is a bit of a fussy time these days. There is a pattern for a matching kitty cat, too.

Last night Charlie and I go so seriously hysterical over this website. These women poke fun at vintage pattern envelopes and craft books and it is truly funny. It reminded me of one of my favorite craft books – Crochet Workshop by James Walters (published in 1979). I believe I bought this book somewhere, maybe a yard sale, when I lived in the Mississippi Delta.

Here is a quote from the inside cover describing Mr. Walters: “Almost by accident he studied music for a short period in Heidelberg, then between various humble administrative jobs at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and The National Theatre, he formed his own modern dance company…In 1971 James Walters won a nationwide knitting and crochet design competition, and in the autumn of 1976 he participated in the BBC series Knitting Fashion.” Oh how I would like to see an episode!

Here is James exhibiting some of those modern dance skills while wearing a crocheted union suit:

And here is a nameless individual kissing a goat while wearing a crocheted tunic:

It’s bat girl!

This wardrobe necessity speaks for itself:

Holy Lord! You’d have thought they could have edited out the pubes! Gross! LOL!
That droopy dog is wicked cute though!

Thank you so much for the link to the threadbared site – that was absolutely awesome. Like a sewing version of what James Lileks did for cookbooks at the hysterical “Gallery of Regrettable Food” at http://www.lileks.com.
