Bunny

August 9, 2005

Dscn0007

We had a great weekend on the Cape. The weather was perfect. Jen and Adam have a beautiful modern home way high up on the bluffs overlooking the bay. Roxy got to play with their daughter who is two years old and so smart and funny. It was really nice to get away, even if only for a weekend.

When we got back my package from Contemporary Cloth had arrived with some lovely Kaffe Fasset fabrics. I had been thinking for a while about a new bunny pattern and was inspired to design one last night. This long and lean bunny is the result. I set my stitch length really tiny (on my machine it is labeled “2”) and it really helped to keep the seams together on a cotton fabric like this.

Today I found a great vintage craft book at the library. The Big Book of Soft Toys by Mabs Tyler (I just love the name Mabs!) (1972) is full of promising patterns. Here are a few of my favorites:

this kangaroo is adorable

I like the owl, but I really like the squirrel

a doll with shoes like the ones I’ve been making for my bears

and directions on how to make felt shoes for a straight-legged doll (in case anyone is interested)

I don’t knit (although I wish I did).These knitted bears are great

and I love this tall penguin and the baby polar bear, too.

Lots of projects to start!
