around the studio today

January 28, 2010

DSC_0015

Last week we hung up two beautiful mid-century shelves we found on Craigslist.  Finally a place to display things.

On the lower one I put my lion, some vintage spools, a little vase with some bare branches, vintage wooden alphabet stamps, a bird, and a collage Lisa Solomon gave me in a swap a year or two ago.

And on the other, more wooden spools, wooden and bone buttons, a crow and a collage I bought at Three Graces in Portsmouth last summer.

My desk today.  Pattern pieces, scissors, forceps, needles, beeswax, embroidery floss, candy and general detritus.

A new sheep is finished. I lined her ears in white. A little woolly ram may be next.

I had a friend over this morning and it was lovely.  And now it is lightly snowing.  And I created a star chart for the kids. They absolutely need to start dressing themselves.  The little one is right on track and will often come in at 6:30 to tell me that not only is she fully dressed (including tricky stuff like tights), but has brushed her teeth, combed her hair and put it up, and gone downstairs to turn on all the lights for us.  It's the kindergartener that would like me to dress her completely while she stands there chatting. No more, my friends. No more.

I wish I had a studio… I think I drive my other half mad leaving everything lying about in our living room!

My "studio" is really a table in our bedroom! A work table, a sewing machine, an ironing board, some shelves. That's it! But it works for me. I have a place where ongoing projects can be left out and I am near my kids while they are sleeping. Perfect.
