In episode #20 of the podcast, my guests are Rachael Gander and Kim Werker.

Rachael is a sewist, mom, wife, designer, blogger, and fabric enthusiast who learned to sew alongside her mom, but lost interest in the craft until her early twenties. She has spent the last fifteen years making up for lost time, experimenting with modern quilting, accessories and garment sewing, pattern design, hand-printed fabric, and textile design. Rachael’s original patterns feature classic silhouettes with a modern twist that incorporate clever details and practical techniques and blogs at imaginegnats.com.

Kim Werker is an editor and speaker who tries to make something every day, and sometimes that something is ugly, on purpose. Through Mighty Ugly, she helps people confront their creative demons so they can make more stuff, or even make great stuff. Her new book, Make It Mighty Ugly, will come out this fall. Day to day, Kim is a freelance editor, working with self-publishers to make their ebooks or craft patterns better organized, more clearly written, and generally polished. This spring, she’s been revisiting a long-dormant part of her career – crochet. Her new crochet class with Craftsy will launch in the early summer. Never content – obviously – to do only one kind of thing, Kim has worked hard to accept that she just needs to do a bunch of different things, all while working from home in Vancouver, Canada, with an aging mutt asleep in the next room.

We chat about our current projects and then Rachael, Kim, and I recommend great stuff we’re loving right now.
