I committed to making a few things for the spring auction at Roxanne's school next month. With our oldest daughter just starting kindergarten this year we are newbies to the spring auction so I'm not sure what would be best to make. I thought I'd try a few and things and see what happens.
I also have a meeting with Mass Aububon in the beginning of March. They have a neat visual arts center not far from where I live. I don't exactly what will come of the meeting, but I thought I'd better bring along a bunch of different birds so they can get a sense of what everything looks like up close.
So I'm making some birds. I think I did say I was totally ready to move on from birds after a marathon 8 months of work for the book, but hey, I love making birds. And they are relaxing to work on.
Anyway, the first in this little series for the auction/meeting is this wren. I tried to choose some lifelike colors for his plumage. And in the background, orange tulips I bought on Sunday. I am ALL DONE with being freezing and crunching through snow. Unfortunately, New England does not seem to be all done yet. Next year we really should go to Arizona during February vacation.

I made an embroidered bag for my husband’s school auction a few years back. After a few bids, my mother-in-law ended up winning it for maybe $30 or $40. Not bad, but I would have sold it for closer to $100 on my site. I decided next time they asked I might just sell something myself and donate the money! Or, just make something that didn’t take so long…
I hope your birds do fantastically!!

I think this is just darling, I’d snap it up at our school’s auction in a second!
Just like Tiffany, last year I made doll’s clothes for our school auction and they went for a fraction of their value.
I’m doing doll quilts this year–again, I have low expectations–but I’d still rather make things than solicit items from businesses!

Your birds are SO wonderful. The little wren. . . oh my goodness! How do you manage to stuff a personality in a fabric bird?! LOL!
