This is the first in a series of three tall birds for the show.
Instead of making a mask, which is the way I've done these birds in the past, I decided to make a new type of crest. Ever since I got Anatomy of Doll (I love Susanna Oroyan's books and I"ve learned to much from them) I have been inspired by doll artist Shelley Thornton. She makes beautiful dolls, but what I love the most about them is their hair. Take a look through her site and you'll see what I mean – little stuffed nodules of fabric sewn to the heads give this amazing impression of hair in the wind. With that in mind, I designed a new crest for the tall birds.
And I'm thinking more about this idea and how else it could develop with birds.

Hi Abby –
Me again. Forgot to add that I have left you a tag over at ‘Handmaid in Israel’. Not sure you are into these things, but I thought I’d join in for once! Now you can too…
