Stella and I managed to make it out of the house by ourselves this morning. We went to another church rummage sale and then to an incredible estate sale. Lots of ooohhhing and ahhhing over the new baby by everyone we met, and lots of random comments about me having a baby so new out and about, even though Stella was safely tucked in her sling and strapped to my body so only to top of her head was showing and she was asleep the whole time.
Anyway, this estate sale was really something. Clearly the people who lived in this house were an elderly couple who had both passed away and their children were selling everything they didn’t want to keep. 50 years worth of accumulated treasures and everything was for sale. It was pretty amazing and sad, too. I could have bought a whole lot more than I did, including a set of cast iron pans (too heavy to carry today) and a Dansk serving dish shaped like a bird (Charlie would have thought it was too whimsical), but I did get this incredible blue hat for $3 – it’s almost too good for the dress up box.
A really mod crystal wine stopper for $4, and this excellent doll’s chair. I’ve been looking for a small chair for my favorite softies to sit on in the craft room and this one is really perfect. My white nubbly bear looks so comfy now.
The rummage sale was a lot of fun, too. I got a vintage apron and quite a variety of 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s vintage knitting magazines. Here is a taste of a few of them:
Here’s the thing, though – I don’t knit. Nope. In fact I really don’t dig the yarn arts much. Too time consuming for me. So I thought I’d offer these magazines up for swap. I’ll include the vintage apron, too, and perhaps a few other goodies. There are 10 magazines in all and most are in really good condition. The ads are great and so are the photos. If you knit and think you might like these magazines, comment below. The first person I hear from, they’re all yours, just put together a little package for me in return. Thanks!

Hello there! I am new to blogland, but have been reading your fine blog for about 2 months now. I look forward to your new creations and the fun that your family has sporting it all. I am an obsessed knitter who would love to learn to sew, but I need to make friends with my machine… This “brother” doesn’t like me much. I would love these patterns! I will gather some items

for swap, and wishes? Congrats on the sweet new babe! My Sadie Pepper was born last August and motherhood is joy every day! I don’t have a blog and computers are alien to me, but please email me with some swap wishes… -Jessica

I don’t knit either so no need for the mags. Anyway, just wanted to comment on taking the baby out even though she’s young. My daughter and I were out and about at day 5 and folks always felt the need to comment even though she was safe and warm. It’s great you’re getting out; what are you supposed to do, stay inside for months? Thanks for the great blog

Love the hat! And I just hit a thrift store today and came home with a lot of vintage knit magazines too. How funny because I don’t knit either.

The hat is fantastic! If you ever want some company on your thrifting adventure, let me know- all the churches in Arlington are no longer doing Rummage sale- I found out when I was looking to donate stuff. I am amazed by how quickly you are up and about!

Hi there. My son is now 22 years old, but the day we got home from the hospital the family all went to Chucky Cheese to celebrate! He slept through it the whole time and I never left his side. Guess what? He grew up just fine! Always do what you feel is best for you and your child not what everybody else thinks! Congrats on a beautiful baby girl.
