Yesterday I saw this site, posted by Alison at six and a half stitches (thanks!), and I decided to try to make a birdie pouch. I created a pattern and set to work. The outside of the pouch is made from a vintage cloth napkin and the lining is cotton calico. It has a button eye, a snap closure, and wool felt wing and beak. This was a fun, quick project and the pouch is actually useful (I put interfacing on both the outside and lining fabrics so the finished pouch is nice and sturdy). I like making things that are useful.
Now that I have a good pattern worked out, I think I’ll try to make another pouch in different colors. I am currently struggling with color – I want the things I sew to look modern and funky, but I find that often they come out looking country or too flowery. I think this pouch has the potential to look less like a hen and more like something I would actually buy in the store. Maybe brown and pink? brown and green? Anyone have any thoughts?
